DPP System

LEADSTEC’s DPP System is a foundation platform paired with industry-specific vertical solutions. The foundation delivers the architectural substrate every Digital Product Passport (DPP) implementation requires — canonical product identity, a lifecycle event model, an evidence vault, and a governed schema. Vertical solutions apply that foundation to a concrete regulatory and operational context.

The current vertical solution is DPP for Textile & Apparel. Additional verticals will follow as regulatory scope expands.

The Foundation Platform

The Foundation is the part of the DPP System that is shared across every vertical. It does not change per customer, and it does not change per regulatory regime. What changes per regulatory regime is the vertical solution layered on top.

Canonical Product Identity

Every product receives a stable, governed, lifecycle-aware identifier. The identifier is the anchor for every downstream record — schema, events, evidence, disclosures. It is created once and survives changes in supply chain, ownership, and regulatory regime.

Lifecycle Event Model

A unified model for capturing events across the full operational life of a product: manufacture, distribution, use, repair, resale, recycling, end-of-life. Events are chronologically ordered and immutable once confirmed.

Evidence Vault

A controlled repository for supporting documents — certificates, test reports, declarations, images. Each document is versioned, timestamped, and protected by a cryptographic hash. A verification endpoint allows independent integrity checks.

Governed Schema

A modular, version-controlled schema that defines the data structure of a passport. Stable at the core, extensible per vertical. Verticals add their regulatory-specific fields without forking the foundation.

Foundation Capabilities

  • DPP issuance with globally unique identifiers and automatically generated QR codes for physical product linkage
  • Web-based Passport Viewer with separate public and authenticated access modes — accessible via QR code scan, no app installation required
  • Role-based access control with differentiated permissions for issuers, suppliers, auditors, and public viewers
  • Cryptographic fingerprinting of records and evidence manifests with an independent verification endpoint
  • AI-assisted data quality guidance with explicit human-in-the-loop confirmation before any change is applied
  • Analytics dashboards covering DPP completion status, units traced, and lifecycle event counts

Lifecycle Event Model

Events are captured across the full operational life of a product, not only at point of manufacture. Each event is chronologically ordered and immutable once confirmed. Manual entry is supported where ERP integration is not yet in place.

Core ERP-Sourced Events

  • Manufacturing
  • Shipment
  • Receiving

Extended Lifecycle Events

  • Use events — condition, usage, engagement
  • Repair events — location, replaced parts
  • Resale events — marketplace metadata, sale price
  • Recycling and upcycling events — partner, recovery yield

Passport Viewer

Every issued DPP exposes a web-based Passport Viewer accessed via QR code — no app installation required. Optional NFC and RFID deep linking is supported.

Public View

No login required. Simplified product information, sustainability highlights, visual lifecycle story, and public evidence only.

Restricted View

Authenticated access. Full DPP schema, complete lifecycle events, circularity KPIs, and the full evidence manifest.

Circularity & Sustainability Intelligence

The system computes circularity indicators derived from the DPP schema and recorded lifecycle events. Scoring logic is transparent and explainable, with each indicator accompanied by its data inputs and calculation method to support audit and disclosure.

  • Repairability score
  • Recyclability score
  • Reuse and resale frequency
  • Overall Circularity Score
  • Lifecycle performance scoring
  • Secondary market value estimation

AI Assistants — Governance-First

The platform includes a set of named AI assistants to support data quality, schema completion, and circularity insight. Every assistant is suggestion-only: no AI output is written to the system without explicit human confirmation.

  • Completeness Coach — flags missing fields and guides schema completion
  • Risk & Inconsistency Detection Agent — surfaces inconsistent or contradictory data
  • Schema Interview Agent — guided data capture for new passports
  • Circularity Insight Agent — circularity observations grounded in the lifecycle record
  • Secondary Market Estimation Agent — value estimation for resale and circular flows

Every accepted or rejected suggestion is recorded in the audit trail.

Access Control & Roles

Role-based access control is enforced across all functions. Every action is traceable to a user identity, providing a complete audit trail for governance and compliance.

  • Brand Admin
  • Issuer
  • Supplier (limited)
  • Auditor
  • Researcher
  • Student
  • Public Viewer

Integrity & Verification

A cryptographic fingerprint is generated over the DPP JSON record and its evidence manifest. A public verification endpoint allows any authorised party to confirm the integrity of a passport at any point in time. Optional anchoring to a tamper-proof ledger is available where stronger immutability guarantees are required.

Architecture & Deployment

The DPP System is delivered as a cloud-native solution on Microsoft Azure. The architecture is modular and supports dev, test, and production environments.

  • Compute — Azure Container Apps (API and frontend), Azure Container Registry
  • Identity — Microsoft Entra ID and External ID, Managed Identities, Azure RBAC
  • Transactional store — Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server (DPP records, version history, lifecycle events, audit metadata)
  • Document store — Azure Storage Blob (evidence vault, QR assets)
  • Knowledge data — Azure Cosmos DB (modular ontology, non-relational extensions)
  • Search — Azure AI Search (evidence indexing, semantic retrieval)
  • AI — Azure AI Foundry and AI Services for governance-first assistants
  • Observability — Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights
  • Production hardening — Azure Key Vault, Front Door / WAF, API Management, Service Bus / Event Grid, backup and retention automation

Vertical Solutions

Each vertical solution defines, on top of the foundation:

  • The regulatory schema for that industry
  • The data sources that must feed the foundation
  • The reporting and disclosure surfaces required by regulators or buyers
  • The certification and evidence requirements specific to that industry

Current Vertical: DPP for Textile & Apparel

Aligned with the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and its delegated acts for the textile sector. Includes the textile-specific schema (materials composition, fibre breakdown, supply chain metadata, hazardous substance indicators, sustainability certifications, repairability and recyclability attributes), the relevant lifecycle event types, and the disclosure surfaces required for ESPR and EPREL submission.

See the full vertical solution at solutions/dpp-textile.

Future Verticals

Additional industry verticals will be released as separate vertical solutions on the same foundation, rather than as forks of the DPP product. This is what keeps the foundation stable and the regulatory layer flexible.

Why Foundation + Verticals

  • A single DPP “product” trying to cover every regulatory regime collapses under its own scope
  • A pure consulting offer cannot be repeated across customers without rebuilding the architecture every time
  • Foundation + vertical separates what is stable (data architecture) from what changes (regulation)
  • Verticals can be added without disturbing existing customers on the foundation

Integration

The DPP foundation integrates with existing enterprise environments through standard connectors for ERP platforms, product information management (PIM) systems, and manufacturing execution systems (MES). Data ingestion supports both event-driven updates and scheduled synchronisation, keeping passport records current as product states change.

For organisations running LEADSTEC Cloud ERP, DPP records are maintained in direct alignment with operational product and procurement data — no manual reconciliation between systems.

DPP Data as Foundation for AI Content

A governed DPP record contains the most complete, machine-readable product description in the enterprise: materials composition, supply chain provenance, sustainability certifications, circularity indicators, and full lifecycle event history — all structured, versioned, and validated. This is a level of product data richness that no content management system or product catalogue typically achieves independently.

For organisations operating DXP platforms such as AEM, Sitecore, or Magnolia, DPP governance is the architectural foundation for scalable, accurate product content — not a separate content initiative. Investment in DPP data compounds when that data is used as the input layer for downstream content operations.
